The news that Facebook has purchases Onavo, a social data company comes as no surprise to OptimizeSA.com staff. We’ve long understood that Facebook is a DATA company secretly and well disguised as a social media website and application. I can’t imagine another company that knows more information about peoples interests, what they do, where they go and what they take photos of. So the face they’ve purchased a company that specializes in analyzing social data and serving that info up to marketing companies… well… I’m sure you can connect the dots.
This Mashable update touches on it briefly.
The host of apps on their website suggests they specialize in publishing data to mobile applications. All their applications look like they’re centered around display and aggregation of real time data, and their apps look good. Onovo, the social data company says they are “..the first mobile market intelligence service based on real engagement data” and made the announcement on their blog Sunday, October 13th, 20113. Onavo publishes a host of apps for Android and iPhone, and to be honest, we’d never really heard of them out there in the sea of development companies but what we’re banking Facebook is after is their Insights platform… insights… where have we heard that before.
